Diabetes Type 2

The etiology of Type II diabetes is not known, but several analyses indicate that the disease is the result of a combination of genetic susceptibility and external/environmental factors. These external factors are reduced physical activity and an increase in calorie consumption, especially fat. The impact of the reduced physical activity and the excessive caloric consumption on the development of Type II diabetes, is the basis for the global epidemic increase in Type II diabetes prevalence.
  • Risk factors for developing Type II diabetes are:
  • Family history of Type II diabetes
  • Age over 45
  • Evidence of impaired glucose tolerance
  • Physical inactivity
  • Overweight
  • Gestational diabetes
